Our Mission

ADVANCE is a catalyst for young adults with learning, social and critical thinking differences as they transition from adolescence to lives of significance and personal accountability.

We endeavor to create a program that allows young adults to engage in employment that fulfills and expands their lives, rather than merely accommodating their differences.  We provide immersive, real life experiences where Advance students practice skills that lead to personal, social, and economic independence.

We are committed to empowering young adults to self-advocate and determine their life’s course in ways that will be beneficial to themselves and the community.

WHAT MAKES US UNIQUE

ADVANCE fosters self-advocacy, independence, fiscal awareness, confidence, employment readiness, and social relationship skills. Located in an Midtown Houston, the urban setting allows the participants to learn from daily, real-world experiences as they strive for and achieve a life of independence. Our program creates consistent habits of physical activity, body and image awareness, with cooking instruction and nutrition considerations.  This immersion model creates possibilities for higher level learning, stress management, and manageable anxiety levels.  Living and interacting with peers and neighbors invites our students to engage freely with others as they pursue meaning and self-determination.

ADVANCE  instructors engage students

Face to Face (instruction),

Hand over Hand (demonstration),

Shoulder to Shoulder (observation) and

Heart to Heart  (trust and accountability).

``The ADVANCE Program offers motivated young adults with social and learning differences the opportunity to gain independence while sustaining personal and professional relationships.``

HEALTH & FITNESS

THE ROLE OF FITNESS IN EDUCATION

ADVANCE students participate in a variety of physical activities including daily gym visits and weekend QUEST events. These serve to build stamina, increase confidence and focus, improve coordination skills, and suppress anxiety.  They learn to manage their medication needs, nutrition requirements, and tolerance of change within a framework of autonomy supported by compassionate and reliable oversight.
